Jnanadeva and the Warkari Movement/Prof. Dr. Fred Dallmayr
Note 1
...when Jnanadeva was just eight years of age.
James F. Edwards, Dnyaneshwar: The Out-Caste Brahmin (Poona: Aryabhushan Press,
1941), p. 60. Edwards gives a useful overview of various accounts of Jnanadeva's life, pp. 52-86. For another account of Jnanadeva's biography see B. P. Bahirat, The
Philosophy of Jnanadeva: As Gleaned from the Amritnubhava (Delhi: Motilal Banarsidas, 1984), pp. 8-15. Bahirat gives the name of Vithalpant's wife as Rukmini,
and he insists that his guru's name in Banares was Ramashrama (and not Ramananda). He also reports that Rukmini committed suicide a year after her husband.
