Jnanadeva and the Warkari Movement/Prof. Dr. Fred Dallmayr

Note 11

..."The absolute does not prove or disprove itself with the help of any norms or methods of knowledge.... The lamp lit up at midday neither dispels darkness nor spreads light."

Amritanubhava, VI, 94, 96. See Bahirat, The Philosophy of Jnanadeva, pp. 36-39, 196-197. Despite his critique o f scripture-worship, one should note that Jnanadeva was by no  means disrespectful of classical scriptures – as is  evident in his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita and also in  his poems or abhangas devoted to the remembrance of the classical "name" of God (the so-called Haripatha).
