Prof. K.R. Sundararajan/Self-Consciousness in Ramanuja's Vedanta

Note 4

Thus the world is lila, a purposeless purpose, which implies disinterestedness, joyousness, free will and super  abundance of energy on the part of Brahman, and it must be  distinguished from conscious volitional effort. It is to preserve the supreme perfection of Brahman that the Sutrakara has given lila as the motive for creation.

S.R. Bhatt, Studies in Ramanuja Vedanta, (1975), p.99.
