Costantino Faillace, Ph.D.
Dr. C. Faillace is a former United Nations Project Manager and an International Consulting hydro-geologist.
In 1960, he married in Nairobi, Kenya, Katharina Schneider from Germany; two of their children were born in Somalia, the third one in Bolivia.
The Faillaces spent 18 years in Africa (Somalia, Uganda , Kenya, Liberia), 9 years in Central and South America (mainly in Costa Rica and Bolivia) and
several years in East Asia (India, Nepal, South Korea).
Dr. Faillace has published more than 70 scientific papers and monographs on water related development aspects. He also worked five years for the German
Government as Technical Adviser to the Somali Government (1982-1987). The German Government published his largest monograph about water resources development in that country titled "Water Quality Data Book of
Somalia". It is his major publication comprising 8 volumes for a total of about 2000 pages.
Since 10 years the Faillaces are involved in a philanthropic program to help the tribal people of India. Funds for this program are generated from
professional activity as International Consulting Hydro-geologist and from family savings.
Dr. Faillace actually thinks about his replacement. As he puts it in his own words:
"In effect it is time now to consider that somebody else takes over, because my old age will not allow me to continue to go to India for long.
It would be nice if somebody, preferable a Doctor, would be interested in getting involved in my philanthropic program and give medical assistance to
the tribal people. In the past years we have nearly successfully completed our assistance in a large tribal area, it is now time to shift in the field of medical help. Only by this way, people affected by water-born
diseases can get cured.
My vision is to organise in the near future a small medical unit with one Indian doctor, one Indian nurse, a jeep with driver, a van to be adopted as
mobile clinic.
It would be necessary to have an European Doctor with the task to supervise the medical program and to raise funds with the help of volunteer
organisations or other institutions. This would allow the sustainability of the program.
Where to find this person? It is not easy..."
