The oldest and most important Veda text, including 1028 hymns, dedicated to the different gods belonging to the old Indian pantheon, namely Agni, the god of
sacrificial fire and heavenly idol of the priests and Indra, the patron of the warriors, the king of gods and commander over thunder and lightning, the one who killed the dragon of drought.
The poetry of the Rigveda is a poetry of art; its songs are priestly songs, being created in the service of the kings, who rewarded these songs with gifts, cattle, horses and gold.
