The Upanishads('Secret doctrines'. 800-600 BC) are one of the oldest philosophical Indian scriptures. They were elaborated by
various philosophers and philosophical schools and for that reason cannot be looked upon as a firm philosophical system. Much more, they reveal many different Weltanschauungen. They are characterized
by magical thinking as well as by deep mystical thoughts, the later being a dominant influence on the later development of the Upanishads. One main principle of this perception is the
conviction, that the individual soul is not subject to death. Being involved in the law of karma, it roams around, incarnating again and again in human beings, animals, plants and gods, never
finding peace and rest. A liberation from this state can be achieved only by means of realization, that all transitoriness does not belong to the soul. The soul is related much more to the world
spirit. The one, who realizes this truth, will not be reborn, he will go to Brahman, remaining there eternally.
